Type Your Article Here ...After watching The Keith Olbermann Show and hearing Jonathan Turley's (George Washington University) explanation of the case, I can't understand why President Obama would want the Republican Supreme Court to reverse the 9th Circuit Courts decision to let the case go to trial? According to the 9th Circuit Court, the probably illegal warrant was full of omissions and outright lies and that his detention did nothing to keep this country safe. Al-Kidd was detained for 16 days under harsh treatment as a "material witness" , then released under a court order, with a harsh 15 month probation. Al-Kidd, who is a born US Citizen, was never charged with a crime or called as a material witness. Because of John Ashcroft's gross misuse of the material witness statute, Al-Kidd lost his job, his family and who knows what else, so this US Citizen deserves his day in court. Has the office of President of the United States become so vile and corrupt, that even President Obama can't allow the people of this country to see the underbelly of the office. When President Obama was elected with Democratic Houses, I was expecting to see Congressional Hearings and criminal charges brought against the Bush Administration for the crime of torture. But he wanted to sweep it under the rug and move forward, probably believing this would give him Minority Republican support in Congress, and we know how well that went. So I can't figure out why he wants to protect Ashcroft, unless he plans on breaking the law in the future, and needs the cover from the Republican Supreme Court. The Bush Presidency worked at giving the Executive Branch more power than the other two, and the Republican Supreme Court seems to agree, by weakening the lower courts ability to prosecute crimes against members of any Presidents Administration. I was hoping President Obama would go the other way, giving more power back to the Legislative and Judicial Branches, but apparently the power of the Executive Branch is to enticing. I am a Democrat and will almost always be on the side of Democratic policies and positions because I believe they are for the middle class working people, and have empathy and sympathy for those less fortunate than ourselves. I will probably vote for President Obama in the 2012 election, but unless I see some valid reason for his decision to support John Ashcroft, he has lost most all of my respect. Win or lose, Al-Kidd deserves his day in court!
Why would President Obama push the Supreme Court to rule over Al-Kidd vs Ashcroft, instead of letting the case go to trial?
